DAS&RDC BLOOD CLUB The DAS&RDC Blood Club was formed, by two donors, in November of 1980 and has been growing ever since. The purpose of the club is to help square dancers who need blood transfusions, by relieving them of the necessity of trying to find donors to help pay back the blood used. It is usually the case when a person receives a blood transfusion that he or she is asked to replace the blood used, by seeking donors. When a square dancer, or any member of their family, has a blood transfusion, call the Blood Club Chairmen, Dick and Jo King, at 986-1734. They will help. The lives of many people depend on these donations. Blood can be donated at the following locations: DENVER: Belle Bonfils Memorial Blood Center 4200 E. 9th Ave. 355-7366 (call for appointment) AURORA: Bonfils Blood Center 15075 E. Mississippi Ave. Marshalls Plaza 368-9010 (call for appointment) LAKEWOOD: Bonfils Blood Center West 1050 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Suite F Villa South 936-7174 (call for appointment) HOSPITAL LOCATIONS: ENGLEWOOD: Swedish Medical Center 502 E. Hampden 788-5000 (call for appointment) WHEAT RIDGE: Lutheran Medical Center 8300 W. 38th Ave. 425-2142 (call for appointment) WESTMINSTER: St. Anthony Hospital - North 2551 W. 84th Ave. 426-2218 THORNTON: Mountain View Hospital - Humana 9191 Grant 451-7800 LITTLETON: Littleton Hospital - Porter 7700 S. Broadway 730-8900 It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to draw a pint of blood. That pint can save as many as three lives. The best time to donate is sometime within two hours after eating. Avoid greasy foods prior to donating. After donation the donor will be served liquids to restore the fluid volume. Blood mobiles are available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for groups of 36 or more. (36 signatures are required to make an appointment) As a suggestion, you could organize a Blood Donating party for your club with a pot luck dessert party afterwards. The party would have to be at your dance hall, church or other gathering place as the Mobile Units are not self contained. To arrange for the Blood Mobile unit, call Belle Bonfils Memorial Blood Center, 355-7366 and ask for Ron Bergan. Blood donors must be between the ages of 17 and 65 years of age. Blood donating parties could be fun! |
