Lessons So you want to learn how to Square Dance? You've come to the right spot! The Flushing Roadrunners hold Square Dance lessons on Tuesday evenings excluding the first Tuesday of the month. New lesson sessions start three times a year, in January, May, and September. Evening lessons will be divided into three parts:
The lessons cover the calls listed on the Mainstream and Plus dance programs as defined by Callerlab, the International Association of Square Dance Callers. By learning the Callerlab program calls, you will be able to dance to any caller anywhere in the world who is calling from the Callerlab program. Follow these links to view the calls in the Callerlab Mainstream and Plus programs. Due to the number of calls in the Mainstream program, our lessons break the program into two parts: Basic and Mainstream. The Basic lessons cover calls 1 through 46 of the Callerlab program, and the Mainstream lessons cover calls 47 through 68. You are welcome to dance at whatever level you feel comfortable with for as long as you want. Experienced dancers fill out the squares and act as "angels" to help guide the new dancers through the lessons. Learn at your own pace, with no pressure to go on to a level you're uncomfortable with. If you're uncomfortable, you aren't having fun. Our hope is that you have fun learning and become a Square Dancer for life! Lesson cost is $8.00 per couple each night. ($4.00 per couple each night for Roadrunner members.) |
