COLORADO SPRINGS TO HOST THE 2011 STATE FESTIVAL
One of the biggest events for the 2011 in Colorado Springs will be the 56th Annual Colorado State Square Dance Festival! The festival will be held June 10, 11, 2011 at the Double Tree Hotel by the World Arena. It has been a number of years since Colorado Springs has hosted the Festival and area square dancers are excited! The stars of the Festival will be our state callers and cuers.
Various events and vendors will also be participating in the Festival. The Double Tree Hotel has almost 17,000 square feet available for dancing and for vendors. The hotel is offering special rates to the dancers so that everything will be under one roof.
All four council areas in the state will be actively promoting the festival as well as the festival committee members. The chairmen for this year’s festival are Jim and Lynn Martin and Tom and Kathryn Oliphant.
For dancers who would like to make the festival into a mini-vacation, the Colorado Springs area has a number of attractions, such as the Cheyenne Mt. Zoo, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, and the Air Force Academy. For baseball fans, Colorado Springs is the home to the Sky Sox, the triple-A farm team to the Colorado Rockies. There are fishing, camping, and hiking opportunities, also. The Colorado State Festival invites all dancers and visitors to attend this terrific event.
