Single Squares

Single Squares was formed by 16 dancers, Caller Kenneth Graves, nowdeceased, who all fought to get the Club dancing. The meeting place was CareyGrade School, S.W. 29th and Portland in the year1964. In April 1965 SingleSquares was accepted into Central District. The Club moved several times duringthe next few years but always stayed together as one of the strongest clubs inthe district.

The Club banner and badges have changed very little over the years and theyare the color of the Club 'Black and White'.

Labor Day weekend, 1971, Joe Ellis, deceased, was the President of Single Squares.He was the Founder of "Dancearama" which was sponsored by SingleSquares. The first dance was held in Oklahoma City, Christian Renewal Center,Northwest Highway. This is now known as "Single Square Dancers USA".The convention is held each Labor Day weekend, and Single Squares has been thehost club several times.

On February 28, 1974 Single Squares became 'Incorporated'. This was a verybig decision to be made by the Club.

On March 9, 1974, at Central District Conclave, was the first time a memberof Single Squares had served on a committee of Central District.

The club has danced, worked at many conventions, conclaves, charity events,traveled, done float trips, and host to HAASSDA (Heart of America SinglesSquare Dance Association). The Club has worked together and had fun.

The Club welcomes square dancers to come and visit and dance with us the 1stand 3rd Friday nights of each month. The dance is located at 3800 S Portland,Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The workshop begins at 7:00 for round dancing and 7:30square dancing. The Grand march is at 8:00 with round dancing between each tipand Plus dancing the 3rd and 6th tips.
