Marilyn's Monthly Muse
April 2003

Since we are all hoping for some April Shower to help get us over the drought, I thought that I would center my article this month around "Everything I need to know, I learned from Noah's Ark..." Many of these lessons directly apply to Square Dancing as well as life in general.

    One: Don't miss the boat.

For Square Dancers this means, don’t miss the dance. Are you tired and worn down after a week of work? This will more than likely pass away once you arrive at the dance, see your friends and hear the music.

Two: Remember that we are all in the same boat.

Remember to keep smiling and help those beginners out. Remember that you were also new at one time.

Three: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark

Mark your calendars for the Swing Thru’s April dance on
April 6th  with Bear Miller and Carolyn Myers.
We planned ahead this year and decided NOT to have
a dance on Good Friday (April 18th).

Four: Stay fit. When you're 60 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.

At the State meeting I learned that you really can walk up to 5 miles during a Square Dance. This is an activity that is not long fun, but will help keep you fit.

Five: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

Isn’t this a great lesson. It is so easy to criticize,
but so much more rewarding to get the job done.

Six: Build your future on high ground.

The Council is doing a good job here with looking forward to a Square Dancer owned Hall.

Seven: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.

Don’t forget your partner and other members of your Square.

Eight: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.

Just keep up with the music. Of course, you must watch Roger Schappell who was convinced that our 50’s dance meant playing the records at 50 RPM.

Nine: When you're stressed, float a while.

Not only can you Square Dance at the Swing Thru’s but you can
also float through a Round Dance.

Ten: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

Aren’t you glad that we aren’t in a competition?

Eleven: No matter the storm,

when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.

One of the Rainbows in Square Dancing are all of the wonderful people that you meet.

We hope that many raindrops fall on your doorstep this month and hope to see each and every one of your smiles on the dance floor.
