Marilyn's Monthly Muse - May 2003
"Its May! Its May! The Merry Month of May!"

To quote that wonderful song from the musical, Camelot, "Its May! Its May! The merry month of May!" It is hard to believe since I am writing this with the remains of the "Blizzard of ‘03" still in my yard, driveway and street. I hope that the snow is gone by the time you read this. As you know, the Swing Thru’s are a family club. We know that our youth are the future of Square Dancing and are usually the best dancers on the floor.

In honor of them, I share the great truths about life that children have learned:

No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats.
When your Mom is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair.
If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person.
Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
You can't trust dogs to watch your food.
Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.
Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.
You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.

Our first dance is on May 2, 2003 featuring the wonderful calling of Mary "Mary" Castleberry and cueing of Carolyn Myers. I hope that you can join us for a great night of dancing. Our second dance will be on Friday, May 16, 2003 featuring Mike Olivieri on squares and Betty Falk on rounds. This should also be a great dance. Our last dance of May is extra special. This is our annual Comitis Benefit Dance. The Comitis Center is a Crisis Center in Aurora which offers emergency support 24/7. The Center offers a "help line" as well as emergency housing, food, clothing and counseling. Please come and help support this wonderful cause. Jim and Betty Falk will be calling and cueing this event.

In honor of the adult members of the Swing Thru’s I will share some great truths about life, that adults have learned:

Raising teenagers is like nailing Jell-O to a tree.
Wrinkles don't hurt.
Families are like fudge . . . mostly sweet, with a few nuts.
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.
Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the joy.

The Swing Thru’s dance at the Victory Grange
at 2025 Tower Road.
This is just a hop, skip and a jump from I-70 and Tower Road.
We hope you MAY join us this month.
